SAMPLE CUSTOMER REVIEWS –

1) Good addition to the franchise but questionable practices - I'm going to try and keep the review spoiler free as best as possible, but there are a few points that'll spoil some "cameos." Mortal Kombat X follows in the footsteps of MK9. Once again Netherrealm studios shows that a fighting game can have an interesting story to go along with just the matches. The story mode itself took me 3-4 hours to play through once. Some parts of the stry are a little cheesy but nothing too terrible overall. I do feel the MK9 story line was a bit longer and MKX left a lot of questions unanswered.

If you liked the MK9 fighting style this one is not that much different. The most noticeable difference is the addition of the three fighting styles which will allow for some more customization to the player's playing style. Cool addition in my view. I still haven't played tower battles yet but that is coming soon. Characters have 3 fatalities and I believe 6 brutalities each, additionally there are faction kills which are specific fatalities to each faction. I believe there are five of these in total. While not as fancy as the individual characters fatalities they are really easy to pull off. I can only speak for the Lin Kuei faction kills at this point. They are just ok but an unexpected addition.

Now for the questionable choices in this game (SPOILERS AHEAD!!!!!!!!)

The roster includes 25 characters plus Goro for those who preordered. During the story missions however you battle characters that are not playable. This wouldn't be an issue as there have always been a few characters that you couldn't play as that you fought (e.g. Shang Tsung and Goro in MK1, Kintaro and Shao Kahn in MK2, etc.). What I did find is that the following characters have move sets and models and you fight them in the actual game, but for some strange reason are not part of the playable roster:
-Rain
-Sindel
-Baraka
-Tanya
I do not understand Netherealms decision to not include these characters as part of the roster if they clearly already have models and move sets for them. To make matters worse the following characters have models in the story line though you do not actually fight them:
-Smoke
-Striker
-Kabal
-Nightwolf
-Fujin
-Sektor (His head at least)

Also to note the DLC already on sale for the game. There is a pack of "easy fatalities" for $4.99 if I am not mistaken for 30 of these. These are essentially tokens you can use to perform a fatality by just holding R2 and pressing either square or triangle. I haven't used this feature since I have never had too much trouble performing these. There is also a $19.99 DLC to unlock the entire krypt. The krypt itself is huge and a bit clunky to navigate in my opinion. After finishing story mode I had about 80,000 koins and only made a small dent in the krypt at the very least that'll take a while to completely unlock. Data hasn circling that the day one patch lowers the amount of koins you gain in battle. As a precaution I did not download the patch. Fights in story mode netted me anywhere from 800-2500 koins per match. I have been told that after patch they are drastically reduced.by the day one patch in order to make the DLC purchase more appealing because it will take considerably longer to earn koins to unlock the features in the krypt.

While I find the game itself to be fun, the sheer amount of microtransactions and what feels like a cash grab was very off-putting. I was getting irritated at fighting character in story mode that are not a part of the initial roster. Tanya in particular really irked me because she is a part of the $29.99 kombat pack to play as her. Her model and move set is clearly already in the game so she is definitely just disc-locked. The DLC choices in this game feel very reminiscent of Capcom with the Street Fighter X Tekken debacle. Not a good sign for this franchise if these practices are going to become the norm. In my opinion if you can wait the 12-18 months until a complete edition is out do so. Right now this feels like at the very least 2 or 3 kombat packs are going to be issued out at $29.99 a piece bringing this game's cost to about $120-$150 which is completely ridiculous.

2) Great game. Blatant robbery though... - Love the game but i'm getting sick and tired of all these money grabs these video game companies are doing. It's not like google play where you're buying a dollar game and then they try to make more money off you with in-game purchases.... This game comes out to $65 with tax and then my reward is getting hustled for $30 more for characters that I already should have. It's BS. I can't believe this is the new norm. Makes me feel like not buying games anymore.
